Office Space in SoHo

SoHo boasts the greatest collection of cast-iron architecture in the world. Approximately 250 cast-iron buildings stand in New York City and the majority of them are in SoHo. Cast-iron was initially used as a decorative front over a preexisting building. With the addition of modern, decorative facades, older industrial buildings were able to attract new commercial clients. Most of these facades were constructed between 1840 and 1880. In addition to revitalizing older structures, buildings in SoHo were later designed to feature cast-iron.

SoHo became the best place to live in NYC for artists in the 1960s. With natural lighting, huge office spaces, and low rents it became an ideal location for artist lofts. The only problem is that the buildings were not zoned for residential living. A problem that was largely ignored until the early 2000s. Once the artists began moving out, retail shops quickly began moving in.

Retail

If your company is associated with retail, moving to SoHo should be an easy decision. Having an office space in the middle of one of the top retail locations in the world will put you in the middle of everything. You’ll constantly be reminded of what the top people in your industry are doing and have easy access to meeting and networking with them. On any given weekend, the big-name stores that line Broadway and West Broadway, from H&M to Zara are mobbed with New Yorkers and tourists alike.

If you have retail clients or you will eventually open up your own retail location there is no better place to have your flagship location in than SoHo. SoHo is New York City’s largest shopping district in terms of the amount of blocks and storefronts that encompass it. In SoHo, you’ll have an eclectic audience filled with locals, tourists, and office workers.

The ease of access to other startup founders and VC investors is unmatched. No matter what industry your business is in, SoHo is probably the best location for your startup team to be located. If you want to meet with peers or investors it’s as simple as a brief message followed up with a short walk to meet with them. Meetings that take an entire day to coordinate in most other cities take an hour in SoHo. As SoHo continues to evolve it will be interesting to see if Silicon Alley becomes the dominant thing that the neighborhood is known for and retail ends up taking a back seat.

Office Space in SoHo

Office space in SoHo is inspired by its long history of being the heart and soul of NYC. In SoHo you’ll notice that many buildings are mainly walls, lacking windows or doors. This is because many of the streets in SoHo were originally very narrow alleys and were never intended for sidewalks and cars. Many of the buildings that have the distinct cast-iron architecture were originally designed for factories, manufacturing or department stores before electricity was invented. That’s why most of the building are filled with natural light and giant windows in expansive spaces.

Office Space in SoHo has evolved from manufacturing and factories to a place for artists evolving into a modern destination for retail. Today, Silicon Alley is taking over and the best place to find an NYC office space is in SoHo. Being in the center of Manhattan with easy access to the rest of the city comes with huge advantages that will give your new business a distinct edge over your competition.
