Interview With Amanda Signorelli, CEO of Techweek

Amanda is the CEO of Techweek; an international tech festival and media platform operating in eight markets: NYC, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, Kansas City, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Miami. Their mission is to spread tech entrepreneurship to make the world a better place. They believe there are cities all around the world where entrepreneurs are working on innovative technologies, building revolutionary products, and launching the next wave of startups. Amanda loves the startup environment and the ability to wear multiple hats in management, strategy, marketing and sales. Her day to day is a blend of learning about each ecosystem they operate in, creating relationships with tech leaders and setting the vision for their festivals and content throughout the week. Previously, Amanda worked as a consultant supporting strategy and operations projects across numerous industries including retail, healthcare, and tech. Outside of work, Amanda is a humanities and art lover, passionate salsa dancer, globe trotter, and foodie. Can you tell us about this years Techweek event in New York this October?: Techweek New York will feature our a variety of speakers across major topics including fintech, connected devices, state of venture capital, and many more including the CEO of Indeed. Similar to last year we will include our tradeshow where tech companies have an opportunity to exhibit their products and launch competitors will be able to pitch all day. Do you belong to any Meetup groups?: Women Tech Founders and We are Wearables. Have you been to a successful workshop recently?: We always feature a great line-up at our Techweek events. I loved the Ledger labs Blockchain 101 workshop. Do you have any advice for giving a presentation?: The structure is everything. No matter how interesting the content is the most important element is making the presentation easy to follow and relevant to your audience. Have you been to any hackathons that you were impressed with recently?: I haven't had a chance to attend a Brandathon yet but I hear absolutely amazing things! At the last one, Gerard Adams came in to help judge and curate creativity among the participants. What is working best for your marketing right now?: Having an integrated channel strategy has been the key to our marketing. It's incredibly important that we are in lock step across email marketing, direct promos, and social media. Having one channel on is always insufficient. What is your biggest differentiator?: We are an international tech media and events company emphasizing markets that often get overlooked by Silicon Valley and we serve as a platform for them to tell the local story of innovation. What has been your favorite nonprofit event?: I went to a silent auction for the Illinois Leadership Seminar, which provides leadership training programs for high school students. I had a chance to meet some of the alumni from the program, which was wonderful to hear about their direct experience with the non-profit. The cherry on top was winning a Tesla for a weekend and getting a chance to try the autonomous vehicle mode. Favorite place to travel to?: I love the South of France, it's beautiful and filled with its own distinct culture. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?: The Third Wave by Steve Case Do you have any presentation tips?: Pace yourself! Use pauses to not only slow the rate of which you speak but also to purposefully create suspense and emphasis. What business would you love for someone else to start?: It's less of a new business and more an expansion on Amy.xi. I would love to have a virtual assistant who I could have to take care of all the life administration that I often overlook even as simple as getting a vehicle registered! What is your favorite thing about NYC?: The eclectic ambiance, constant hustle, and diversity of thought. What advice do you have for running a successful business?: People are always the most critical asset you have so consistently check in and make sure you're setting up your team for success and that not only are they learning but you're learning from them.
