Ask Yourself These Questions Before Launching Your Startup

5 Best Laptop

When you’re starting a venture or business, you want to have everything planned out. However, no one in history had everything figured out at the start. They improved their ideas and processes as they went on. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be prepared, though. Before you can launch your startup, you must ask yourself some critical questions to understand if the path you’re taking is for you and if you’re really ready for the new journey that’s about to unfold.

There are many questions you need to ask yourself, but these three critical questions will give you an idea of what will be in front of you:

Why do I want to do this?

This seems like a question that would have popped up even before any moves have been made, but surprisingly not everyone focuses on their ‘why’. The why of your business is one of the most important aspects of it. It’s easy to tell everyone what you do in your startup and how you do it. What’s harder to articulate is why you do what you do.

Why do you want to create this startup? Is it something you’re passionate about? If you get a strong grasp of your why, everything else you do in your startup will make sense and, therefore, will be easier. If you know why you want to establish your startup, you will be more motivated. The steps you take from here on out will always back your why. Startups that never lose sight of their why are more successful, with happier customers.

What are my obstacles?

You should be positive about the journey your startup will take; however, it also helps to be realistic. Before diving into your startup, ask yourself what your obstacles will be in achieving your goals. You need to have a clear idea of what problems you will be facing so that you can be ready for them.

If you can identify what obstacles you’re facing before you can succeed, you will have a clear idea of what you need to do. You will know what resources you need and what actions you have to do. Basically, you’re doing your best to be ahead even before you start. This question is important because you want to set your startup for success. You won’t be successful if you try to avoid thinking of any potential problem early on.

Once you’ve asked yourself this, you can make a list of everything that can help you get through those obstacles, whether they’re your skills, your friends, or a contact you know. Be resourceful!

Am I willing to sacrifice my comfort for this?

When people think of starting a business, their imagination goes straight to success, how they can enjoy working from anywhere or delegating everything to other people. Most people forget to think that before you can achieve these things that you dream of, you have to sacrifice a big part of your lifestyle and comfort.

Are you willing to work more than 8 hours a day? Can you work weekends? Are you prepared to lose sleep? Are you willing to live below your means because much of your resources will go to your startup? If you can say yes to these things, it’s a good start. There may be a lot of hardships on your journey to build a successful startup, so it’s best to get your expectations straight. It will not always be a bed of roses, so you have to anticipate the worst. You can only succeed if you’re willing to put in all the time and effort you can give.

Final thoughts

These might not be all the questions that you need to consider to be completely ready for all the ups and downs of building your startup, but they’re a great starting point. Answer them with pure honesty so that you can better determine your commitment to the startup you’ve settled on.

If you’re passionate enough about your startup, these questions are sure to get you thinking. Hopefully this deeper assessment will ensure that you go into this journey with your eyes wide open, ready and equipped with both the right resources and the most realistic mindset. Don’t be put off - if you’re determined to succeed, nothing will stop you!
