One of our workspace experts will reach out to you based on your communication preferences.
One of the exciting things about running coworking spaces in New York City is that we get to meet people from all walks of life. This means everyone from students to entrepreneurs, to digital nomads and everyone else in between. We’re hoping to introduce some our amazing coworking members by featuring them here on our blog. We’re hoping our readers can learn from their expertise and also take inspiration from their stories.
For this week’s Farmer Profile, allow us to introduce you to Farm SoHo coworking member Hal Ebbott:
Hal Ebbott, Principal at Swing Ventures
Swing is an early-stage investment fund. We’re industry agnostic and typically focus on seed and pre-seed rounds. Although there’s no singularly representative company, a few examples emblematic of what we look for in concepts and founding teams are Triplemint, Spark, The Beans, and Turazo.
Prior to joining Swing, I started and ran my own consumer products medical company. The intellectual property of that business was ultimately acquired by DeVilbiss Healthcare. In my current role, I’m responsible for sourcing and diligence of new investments. That includes oversight of the existing portfolio.
Of course, I’m always hoping to find new and better investments, but more than that, I enjoy the process of learning about solutions to areas of the world I’d not previously considered, as well as assisting the leadership of companies as they tackle the inevitable challenges they face. As a result, connecting with folks whose work might benefit (or be benefited by) the companies in our portfolio is always a goal, and a genuine pleasure when it happens.
Exercise is a must in order for me to feel halfway in control of my own thoughts, but aside from that, I’m an avid reader (currently: The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields, which is amazing), an art fan (recent recommendation: Julie Mehretu’s survey at the Whitney), and father to an eight-month-old vizsla puppy.
“The way you do anything is the way you do everything.”
I joined several years ago when I was in search of a central hub from which to work and take meetings. Given that much of my work is autonomous from our office, a co-working outpost made lots of sense as a complement to that.
Thank you for doing this with us, Hal! To learn more about Swing Ventures, you can check out Hal Ebbott on LinkedIn and Instagram or send him an email via [email protected].
