Coworking Member Feature: Lisa Consiglio of Narrative 4

For this week’s Coworking Member Feature, we introduce you to Lisa Consiglio, co-founder and CEO of Narrative 4.

Established in 2012, the New York-based non-profit is described as “a global network of educators, students, and artists”, all united in using the power of art and storytelling. According to Lisa, they do what they do because they are “in awe of young people and believe they have the collective power to change, rebuild, and revolutionize systems around the world.”

Read on and learn more about this inspiring organization and its amazing co-founder:

Q1. Tell us about Narrative 4?

We are a global non-profit organization focusing on art, education, and civic engagement. Our mission is to end the loneliness epidemic by connecting people all over the world with a wealth of programs designed to promote adventures in imagination.

Q2. What is your professional background?

For over 30 years, I’ve dedicated my career to developing powerful organizations that transform the lives of their clients and constituencies. My leadership skills are based in management, fundraising, marketing, and business communications and I work with a wide web of organizations that are connected by a dedication to humanistic ideals. My professional experience spans the arts, cancer research, public policy, and honoring WWII veterans. I’m deeply committed to the power of stories, and Narrative 4 is the culmination of a lifetime of provoking thought, broadening perspectives, fostering connections, and inspiring creativity through literature.

Q3. What are your goals for Narrative 4.?

My main goal is to get Narrative 4’s programs into every school in the world. We have all of the technology we need to connect and yet we are more isolated than ever. I am determined to help all people harness the power of the most accessible, democratic, and universal of all human activities: storytelling.

Q4. What apps or tools do you use the most in your organization?

We are currently auditing our digital platform needs in order to build a state-of-the-art platform that is safe for people to connect in meaningful ways. Over the past sixteen months, we have relied on Zoom, just like the rest of the world!

Q5. What do you love to do during your free time?

I’ve been an athlete all of my life and enjoy anything that involves movement. These days I’m more inclined to do yoga, go for long walks and hikes, take a leisurely swim or cross country ski when I can. I absolutely love to cook, although I’m not as patient as I need to be in order to be a GOOD cook. It’s more about a therapeutic routine of playing some good music, pouring a glass of wine, and zoning out while chopping herbs and vegetables at the end of a long day. I also love to step out of my comfort zone and travel … anywhere.

Q6. What’s the most meaningful advice you’ve ever received in life?

Don’t let anyone occupy the very expensive space in your head unless they are paying rent. I also love this line from Under the Tuscan Sun: “When I was a little girl, I’d spend hours looking for ladybugs. Finally, I’d give up and fall asleep in the grass. When I woke up, they were crawling all over me.” I love the idea of working hard to be fully present at every turn, which isn’t easy. I’ve learned to appreciate being in the moment a lot more than I used to. And it’s a wonderful skill.

Q7. When and why did you opt for a coworking space at The Farm SoHo?

We joined The Farm in the middle of the pandemic as the last office space we rented was way too stuffy and we wanted something with a great vibe. The building really spoke to us and we love our little office, the kitchen, the neighborhood, and, of course, the people!

Q8. Has your work-life balance improved since you started using coworking spaces? How so?

It’s a bit tough to measure that during COVID but we are very excited to move past the pandemic with all of the lessons we’ve learned over the past 18 months and strike that healthy work-life balance at The Farm!

Thank you, Lisa, for granting us this interview. For those who want to learn more about Narrative 4, you can check out their official website and them at [email protected]. Meanwhile, you can also find Lisa Consiglio’s business profile on LinkedIn.
