Creative Tech Ideas in Post-COVID Economy

From healthcare and education to finance, there is almost no industry that is not affected by COVID-19. The business has slowed down for many and whoever adapts faster will survive in the post-pandemic world.

Such global catastrophes can also make room for positive change.  The detrimental and negative effects or emerging health crises should not be minimized. However, we should also keep in mind that humans adapt - really fast! What we mean by positive change for business is the ability to adapt to new challenges faster and take further advantage of technological developments. Some companies find creative and unique ways to generate more revenue and others speed up their pathway to innovative solutions.

One company that adapted to the new economic order by coming up with new ideas and business opportunities due to COVID-19 is the one we all know: Airbnb. Through Airbnb you can, now, have unique experiences like following a plague doctor in Prague, attending an interactive musical, or watching a drag queen show without leaving your home.

In addition to these creative ideas, many businesses turn to technology for growth. We are not just talking about moving physical meetings to Zoom -- but rather taking bigger steps... According to Forbes, mobile commerce, contactless payment, automation are some of the fundamentals of staying in business after COVID-19. Companies from every size have been benefiting from these advancements and in these unprecedented times, the process is just getting faster if businesses want to stay alive.

Some advancements which we were not as commonly used as others such as chatbots or all-in-one platforms seems to be the way to go further. Invesp research shows that by the end of 2020, 85 % of the customer communication will be handled by a non-human agent.

Technologic integration was already important in the pre-pandemic world but what COVID-19 showed is there is no future without an online presence. This is irrespective of what industry your business is in.

Some smaller companies also found ways to bring out their creative ideas while doing social good. Zelos, an app for volunteer management from Estonia, extended its platform by connecting through Trello and creating a helpline for elderly citizens. Through this helpline, volunteers can sign up to help senior citizens with their essential needs.

As more people are staying at home, avoiding as much human contact as possible and social distancing themselves, businesses are finding their own solutions to survive in this "new normal". We talk about the “new normal” but there is certainly not one single definition for it yet.

How communities and businesses will adapt and adjust their needs after COVID-19 is still unclear for many. Right now, the global adaptation process is still happening and how different the “new normal” is to be seen.
